2021: Vietnamese hotels, resorts continue to win kudos

Several luxury hotels and resorts in tourist hotspots across Vietnam won top prizes at global travel awards and earned lavish praise from international magazines.

In April, American lifestyle magazine Veranda listed Six Senses Ninh Van Bay in Khanh Hoa Province among the world's 30 best resorts for 2021.

It was the only Vietnamese resort to break into the list compiled by travel advisors for the magazine.

Located on Ninh Van Bay, around 60 kilometers from Nha Trang, the resort is home to 62 villas surrounded by lush greenery. Behind the resort lies a range of hills where rare monkeys can be spotted.

The only way to access the resort is by boat, which takes around 20 minutes.

In September, Zannier Hotels Bai San Ho in the south central province of Phu Yen topped the most romantic hotel category at the National Geographic's annual Hotel Awards.

The hotel, which opened in December last year, has 71 villas covering around 98 hectares (242 acres). Nestling by rice fields gives it a distinct setting.

Facing a long white sand beach, the hotel is said to have drawn inspiration from local ethnic minority groups and nearby fishing villages in constructing three different types of Vietnamese-style villas.

In October, readers of U.S. magazine Travel + Leisure voted Six Senses Con Dao first among the top 10 resorts in Southeast Asia. It also won praise for supporting sea-turtle conservation, "an activity in which guests can participate in its perfectly parabolic, shallow, white-sand bay."

Stretching along the Dat Doc Beach, it is the only five-star beach resort in the Con Dao archipelago off Vietnam's southern Ba Ria Vung Tau Province. Located inside Con Dao National Park, the resort has 50 beach villas, built mainly with natural materials. Each villa has a private swimming pool.

The Four Seasons The Nam Hai Hotel & Resort near Ha My beach in the central town of Hoi An ranked sixth on the top 10 resorts in Southeast Asia list.

The property is spread over 35 hectares and has three infinity pools, 100 villas and eight separate spa rooms, all designed in the traditional Vietnamese architectural style.

Topas Ecolodge, a five-star resort surrounded by green hills and terraced rice fields in Sa Pa Town, was voted among seven resorts with the world’s most unique swimming pools by Agoda readers.

The resort has an infinity pool at 900 meters (3,000 feet) above sea level, the Singapore-based online travel booking platform noted.

Situated atop a hill, the pool allows eye level contact with the Hoang Lien Son mountain range and stunning terraced fields. It has a power-saving heating system that provides warmth in chilly conditions.

In October, Avana Retreat in the northern province of Hoa Binh was named Asia’s leading retreat at the annual 2021 World Travel Awards.

Nestled deep in the lush forests of Panh Hamlet in Mai Chau Town, it officially opened to tourists in April this year and has become a favorite weekend retreat among Hanoians thanks to its proximity and secluded ambience.

Banyan Tree Lang Co in Hue Town was named the winner of the Asia’s luxury beach resort category at the World Travel Awards.

Situated in Phu Loc District in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue, the resort stretches along Lang Co Bay, famous for its pristine beaches, majestic mountains and tropical forests. The resort features 32 lagoon pool villas, seven beach pool villas and 10 well-being pool villas.

World Travel Awards, launched in 1993 to acknowledge excellence in the travel and tourism industry, has been described as the "travel industry's equivalent of the Oscars" by the Wall Street Journal.

In late October, Amiana Resort Nha Trang in the central province of Khanh Hoa won the world’s best luxury family resort title at the annual World Luxury Hotel Awards.

Overlooking the peaceful Nha Trang Bay, the resort features 153 spacious rooms and villas, each with garden or ocean views and a private balcony. At the heart of the resort is a 2,500-square-meter natural seawater pool and a 700 square-meter freshwater infinity pool.

At the same awards, Premier Village Ha Long Bay in the northern province of Quang Ninh was voted the world’s best beach resort.

Overlooking Ha Long Bay, a world heritage site, the resort offers beach-view villas and allows tourists to easily explore popular tourist attractions in Quang Ninh Province.

World Luxury Hotel Awards was first launched in 2006 to acknowledge excellence in the luxury hotel industry on the basis of votes by guests, travelers and industry players. Over 300,000 international travelers vote during a four-week period each year to select the winners.

Azerai Can Tho resort in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho was voted among Asia’s 25 best resorts in this year's annual Readers' Choice Awards by readers of British magazine Condé Nast Traveler.

Located on Au Islet in Cai Rang District, the resort opened in 2018 with 60 bungalows and five villas. The only way to reach the islet is by boat.
