Firmiana Simplex blossom season on the Cham Islands

(QNO) - The red colour of the blooming Firmiana Simplex flowers on the Cham Islands, blending with the green of the mountains and the blue of the sea, attracts much more visitors. They go there to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

In late July, Firmiana Simplex flowers bloom brightly across the forests on the Cham Islands (18 km from Hoi An, Quang Nam). This place is recognised as a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve due to its rich ecosystem with more than 950 aquatic species preserved. Cham Islands is one of the favourite tourist attractions in Quang Nam because of its wild beauty.

The coastal road on the Pearl (Hòn Lao in Vietnamese), the largest island of the Cham Islands, is coloured red with Firmiana Simplex flowers. The Firmiana Simplex flower season starts in late July and lasts until late August on the Cham Islands.

Firmiana Simplex trees grow on rocky mountains; the drier and sunnier it is, the more brilliantly the flowers bloom.

The erythrina trees have long been a part of the local lives. Three of them, aged between 155 and 250, in Bai Lang village were recognised as Vietnam Heritage Trees in April 2015.

Simplex trees are very useful in daily life. Their seeds and bark are used to make hammocks, a popular handicraft product, oil, sunscreen, and food.

Travellers to the Cham Islands in the Simplex flower season can also take part in some activities, including snorkelling to see coral reefs, camping, paragliding, and enjoying fresh seafood and local dishes.

The best time to visit Cu Lao Cham is from March to August.
