It is said that the Phuc Kien Assembly hall was once a small temple where a statue of Thien Hau Thanh Mau (a goddess who protects sea-going merchants) was worshiped. The statue has been found on the beach of Hoi An in 1697. Due to the restorations and support of the Fukien people, this Assembly hall became resplendent and spacious and a strong feature of the uniqueness of Hoi An architecture. The arrangement of the statues within for worshiping has a special meaning, simplified as “Human Happiness”. Annually, on the 15th of the first lunar month, the 16th of the second lunar month, and 23th of the third lunar month, many activities are organized, attracting a lot of foreigners as well as domestic visitors. On 17th of February 1990 Phuc Kien was listed a national historical-cultural relic.
